Who we are

Wildlife Rescue ZA is a division of Namaqua Holdings (registration 2026/732670/07), of Holding 40, R563, Oaktree, Krugersdorp, 1793. Namaqua Holdings is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy, and this policy applies to Namaqua Holdings and its Wildlife Rescue ZA product.

We are committed to protecting your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Information we collect

• Account details — your name, email address, organisation, and phone number.
• Rescue records you create — species, dates, GPS coordinates and reverse-geocoded addresses, photos, notes, and any contact details of members of the public who report or hand over a rescue.
• Subscription and payment information — your subscription status and PayFast payment references. We do not store your card number — PayFast handles all card data.
• Technical and usage data, including cookies.

How we use your information

We use your information to provide and secure the service, store your rescue logs, generate and email your reports, process subscriptions and billing, provide support, and comply with our legal obligations. We process your information on the bases of your consent, performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests, and our legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We use the following operators — third parties who process personal information on our behalf, under our instruction:

• Supabase — hosting and database.
• PayFast — payment processing.
• Resend — email delivery.

Where your data is stored

Our database is hosted in the European Union by Supabase. This means your personal information is transferred outside South Africa. We rely on the EU's data-protection regime, which provides a level of protection consistent with POPIA section 72, and we take reasonable steps to ensure your information remains protected.

Personal information about other people you record

Where you record the personal information of members of the public in a rescue record — for example, someone who reported or handed over an animal — you are responsible for having a lawful basis to do so. We process that information on your behalf, as an operator acting on your instructions.

How we protect your information

Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted by row-level security and authentication, and we apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect your information.

How long we keep your information

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active, and thereafter only for as long as required by law.

Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

• request access to your personal information;
• request correction or deletion of your personal information;
• object to our processing of your personal information; and
• lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (inforeg@justice.gov.za /inforegulator.org.za).
